After the Fire Berkley Sensation Kathryn Shay 9780425193044 Books
I love Kathryn Shay’s writing. This book is about 2 romances that struggle to exist. Both the firefighters and police struggle to cope with the effects of major fires in their town and also with deaths around them. Between PTSD issues, spouses who can’t deal with their professions, children who are acting up because they need more attention and feelings of inability to give a partner what is needed, this book presents the reader with real people whose emphasis is on helping. Frequently I wanted to cry at how how hard their situations are. At the same time I rejoiced with them when they reached to the therapist to see themselves in more realistic light. For me, this is one of those stories I couldn’t put down. Just had to know what would happen next. Waiting for the next book to,learn how everyone was and who the arsonist was who hurt so many in such a terrible way.

After the Fire Berkley Sensation Kathryn Shay 9780425193044 Books Reviews
I have never read any work of Kathryn Shay. I did NOT receive this book for free in exchange for a review.
This is a well thought out book with a basic plot of boy meets girl, falls in love. That is just a minor part of the story. Kathryn Shay does a masterful job at including action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and romance. The Malvaso family sounds like a family I know and can love. Each character is well defined as the plots and subplots take twists and turns that keep you guessing, what next? Ms. Shay's writing style is easy to read and she keeps the story at a fast pace with a little filler information.
If you like romance, well written and edited books, you will love this book. This is not a "mushy" romance. Not a girly girl book. I am happy to recommend this book to young adults and romance lovers everywhere. This book would make for a great movie. I am going now to buy the 2nd book in this series....I just have to know what happens to the firefighters and the Malvaso family.
KUDOS Ms Shay on a tale really well told!
After the Fire Hidden Cove Firefighters Series Book One is by Kathryn Shay. It is a separate series about firefighters and seems to be just as good so far as her other series. Very realistic, it doesn’t leave out any details on the fires they fight or the relationships they have.
Mitch Malvaso, Jenny Malvaso, and Zach Malvaso are all firefighters like their father. Their brother Paulie and sister Connie are not and do not want anything to do with firefighting. This has created a rift between them. There is a special rift between Connie and Zach and even Zach doesn’t know what it is. Mitch, Jenny, and Zach are all involved in the Sinco Automotive warehouse fire. Luckily all of them come out alive unlike others. The fire changes all of them and they make a promise to make those changes.
Jenny wants a baby. She has known this for a while; but realizes life isn’t promised so wants to live it to the fullest. A baby will make her life full. She intends to go to a clinic but as she thinks of it, she decides she wants her lifelong friend Grady to be the father. The two are inseparable as it is. They own side-by-side duplexes with a door between them that is always open. She just has to convince Grady who has his own demons to face. Will he agree?
Zach Malvaso decides to change. He wants his wife, Angie, back and to spend more time with his sons, Nicky and Jason. He hurt Angie so badly in the past with his affairs and his constant being away from home. He has neglected his sons and hopes it isn’t too late. First, he has to convince Angie that the change in him is real and for good. Can he do this?
Mitch decides he has had enough of his loveless marriage. Cindy is a shrew and takes it out on her children. He has to get ahold of his children and get their lives straightened out and then deal with Cindy. She either has to agree with therapy or a divorce. Can her high society entitlement attitude allow for any change in their lives? Can he get his children back? Once he meets Megan Hale, can he keep their relationship platonic?
This is a very good book but has many twists and turns which make it very interesting. It definitely holds your attention.
After the fire is a compelling read about the lives of one family after a tragic fire almost claimed the lives of three firefighting siblings.
Still at the scene of the fire, they vow to change their lives for the better.
Mitch, a lovable father-figure to his other firefighting siblings vows to make things better with his kids, who have recently gotten a little more than out of control & to try to resurrect things in his marriage to the selfish semi-crazy Cynthia for the children. Things get out of control for him when a sexy new police officer from the city moves to their town & brings forth feelings in Mitch that he long ago lost for his wife.
Jenny, a strong, but sensitive female firefighter on the crew, longs for a baby, but without a husband and with no foreseeable romances in the future, she leans on her best friend (and also firefighter) Grady to help.
Zach, is a hot-headed player, who before the fire "chased anything with a skirt" unfortunately causing great pain to his wife, and splitting up his family, keeping him from spending time with his two children.
All three have two other siblings, who never seemed to fit into the firefighting role or even appreciate the fire department for that matter. "After the Fire" documents the struggles they all face to make things right in their lives & their efforts to give back to the community in a camp for children of firefighters or cops killed in the line of duty,
Of course nothing goes as easy as planned, and personal drama, as well as personal anguish of having lived through such a tragic fire makes it even harder for the siblings to keep their vows and mend their lives. You will not want to put this book down, in an effort to find out how things work out for these lovable and personable characters.
Very good writing, only a few editorial errors that don't really detract from the story. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more by Kathryn Shay.
