I enjoyed this book and I recommend it. However, I have one minor complaint for this Australian author. If you are going to use American characters in an American location, please make sure you are using American English, please. I have no problem reading British or Australian books set in those countries with the use of "their" English. But when I'm reading a book set in the U.S. and wrong words are used it takes me out of the story. It's "curb", not "kerb." And "windshield", not "windscreen." "Period", not "full stop." And we don't use the metric system but if we did we would say "meter" not "metre." I know it's a minor complaint, but it does take me out of the story so I felt I had to mention it in case the author sees this. Please have an American read it before you publish it! That rant aside, this is a good book. It's set in a future Washington, DC where everyone is glued to "M-bands" which tell you how you rate with others you come into contact with. Everyone is looking for their future perfect mate. The worst thing to be is a "Neg", which means that you rate negatively with nearly everyone. Negs are said to be a danger to society and are taken away and never heard from again. The main character's father was determined to be a Neg and was never heard from again. His daughter is doing everything in her power to find him - by any means necessary. And those means are not always honorable. I felt that the characters and their motivations were well-developed and realistic. All in all, it was a good story with lots of action and I will definitely read another book by this author. As a matter of fact, I recently bought her book "One Past Midnight" and I'm going to read it next.Tags : Disruption [Jessica Shirvington] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. This book was right up my alley. It held my interest. Now I want more.
Seriously one of my top favorite series that I’ve ever read!!! The plot, the romance, everything..superb! I wish there was more! Such an entertaining and clean read! Very refreshing.
Exciting and interesting look at what could happen. This time it isn't the government that has the bad guy role. Instead, the rich hold all the controls. Some lovely surprise and suspense.
I enjoyed this book very much. Loved the characters. Read late into the night because I just couldn't put it down. The sign of a good book!
This book rates tight up there with all the great dystopian novels. Better than Maze Runner, perhaps equal with Hunger Games series. Did not see the ending of this first book coming... A definite read for all and hopefully not something I see left in my lifetime but you never know... Judge for yourself
My Thoughts
I have been in love with Jessica Shirvington's stories ever since reading Embrace (The Violet Eden Chapters #1). So naturally when I first laid eyes on Disruption I just knew I needed to get my hands on it, sadly Jessica is an international author...her books release in Australia first. Now I know how the rest of the world feels when they have to wait forever after a U.S. release, it's not fun. But finally, FINALLY Disruption was available to me. I should have waited, I should have had some self discipline, but of course I have absolutely none therefore I devoured the book in one sitting. I now have to wait till March for book two, while simultaneously avoiding potential spoilers on Goodreads/book forums. But I just know it will be worth the wait.
If you can't tell, I LOVED Disruption! It was so good! And the idea behind it all was so original and unique, even if it is a dystopian it doesn't read like old new, instead it quickly sucked me until I was dying to know how everything would end. But that was not to be, because WARNING it has a wicked cliff hanger of an ending. I was literally sitting there staring at the last page with my mouth wide open in shock. I can't even form a coherent thought to adequately review this book because I just want to grab you by the face and shout about how awesome it is and it doesn't matter why and you just need to read it!
this story is different from a lot of the distopian stories i've been reading.
you have maggie, an expert at blackmailing people to get what she wants, money, information, favors. she has one goal, find her father who was taken after registering (by phera-tech) as a neg. negs are believed to be criminals or having the probability to become criminals. her mother and brother kept the truth from her.
she arranges for quinn, the son of the head of the M-Corp (the controllers and inventors of the m-bands and phera-tech) to think that he is a neg. she pretends that they have a high rating and he knows if he doesn't go along with it, he will be exposed and imprisoned as a neg. she coerces him into getting her into places she can get information. she takes him places so he can see the truth of what his family business is doing. she tries to keep her feelings from growing for him the way his feelings are growing for hers. when she finally learns the truth about her father, she confesses to quinn what she had done and they are forced to turn on their phera-tech and their true compatibility is revealed. as one character says, i didn't see that coming! she is imprisoned and believes she will never see quinn or light again.
what i really love about this story is quinn doesn't try to protect her from everything the way so many guys in so many stories do. yes, he wants to keep her safe as he falls in love with her, but he already knows she can take care of herself.
the characters seem to have a great maturity, despite making a lot of mistakes. they are not the almost perfect characters in so many other stories. they make mistakes, big mistakes, and pay for them. they are easy to love.
my major complaint the author should have had these books read by an american before publishing! too many spellings and terms are not something people in the u.s. say. she refers to metres. and the rest of the world will understand that. but in the u.s. metres are only really used in certain sports terms and possibly scientific. but i wouldn't take a star off for that.
then head into book 2 for the rest!
